Love What You Do: Sharon Seller

An MTTI-WellSpring graduate finds her calling in massage therapy after 30 years in a high-stress career.

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 9, 2009) – When Sharon Seller turned 49 years old, she decided one thing: that she didn’t want to spend her life working 60-plus hours a week in a high-stress job. She naturally gravitated towards a career in massage therapy that allowed her to have her own business, control her own hours and decide her own pay. Plus, what’s more relaxing than massage?

“I think it was a ‘mini’ midlife crisis!” Seller says while looking back on her time before becoming a massage therapist. “My niece graduated from MTTI-WellSpring a couple of years earlier, so after doing some research, I decided this would be a good fit for me.”

Seller was especially impressed with the school’s curriculum and convenient schedule.

“I looked at all the massage programs out there and was most impressed by the curriculum offered by MTTI-WellSpring,” she says. “I had already found a new day job so the night classes at MTTI-WellSpring made it possible for me to attend school.”  

The school’s curriculum and instructors helped Seller to hone in on her passion. Now a graduate of the program, Seller specializes in spa massage and is working with a couple of spa owners/managers to learn more about being an independent contractor. She also recently applied for a home business license and hopes to practice from her home in the very near future. 

Seller says changing careers was scary, but worth it. Through massage therapy, she has met some wonderful and interesting people, she says.

“This industry is so far removed from what I’ve done in the past that I was really nervous about whether or not I would succeed,” she says. “But I had such supportive and encouraging instructors that made my experience a very positive one. It is a blessing to be able to give people relief from the stress and pressure of daily life.”
